Hawke

Death has a way of changing a man, especially when it occurs unexpectedly.

When I lost my wife and daughter seventeen years ago, their deaths consumed me, and my world crumbled. I became a shadow of the man I once was, dedicating my life to my work within the CIA … until I met Emily Proctor.

Since the very first day I met Emily she has challenged me, and even though I initially found her frustrating, she managed to get underneath my skin. I may have not believed it was possible, yet against the odds that woman gave me a second chance at love and happiness.

Some things, though, are just not what they seem …

When Mark Dixon and Cole Security initially tried to recruit me, I was resistant. My retirement from the CIA was a decision not made lightly, but at heart I’m a military man and boredom set in quickly, so eventually I conceded and joined the team.

Life seemed complete … I had the girl and my first mission with Cole Security was supposed to be easy, one many of us have done a hundred times before. Unfortunately, none of us could have foreseen what was about to happen next, nor the impact it would have on our lives.

Emily may have believed she left her past behind her, but eventually it caught up and when the past comes crashing into the future it can have a devastating effect.

Maybe I’m not meant to find everlasting love, maybe I am, but what I do know is regardless of what happens I won’t give Emily up without a fight.

What to tell you about myself??

When I sat down to set about the challenge of what I could say, I found that I didn’t really consider myself to be very interesting at all.

I’ve lived in Western Australia my whole life, only ever leaving the country once. Right now though I reside in a southern suburb close to the beach.

Above everything else I’m a wife and a mother. I’ve been married to a man I believe to be my soul mate for the past nine years. When he came into my life I already had two gorgeous kids, a boy and girl, who he took on as his own without any consideration as to how it would affect his life. During our time together, he has also blessed me with two more gorgeous little girls. My real life also has me working fulltime as an Office Manager for an Audio Visual Company.

I grew up in a home with three aunties, two uncles, my younger brother, my father, and my grandparents!! Wow that was more of mouthful than I expected! As you can imagine life in a large family like that was never boring .

As a child I loved creating stories in my head, it was my escape, a place I could go and hide from the world. As I became older, my stories evolved and every time life challenged me, I slipped back into my imaginary world and hid. This didn’t change as I entered adulthood.

I have always been the kind of person who never made things easy for herself, and I spent many years drifting from family member to family member looking for direction. It wasn’t until I was twenty-one when I met a man who would become, what I thought - my future. Over the next twelve years he was my life, well him, and the two children he blessed me with.

We lost that loving husband, and father to a heart attack when our children were very young, and life as you can imagine became a little rough for a while.

Over the years my stories have given me the sanity to get through many tragic situations. They’ve given me a world to escape into, one where I can be anything I want.

These stories I’ve created over the years, have always been a coping mechanism that worked for me, and I’ve always wanted to share them.

With the support of my family I have ventured out there, and finally put them down on paper. I hope you love them as much as I do.

Hawke has endured a devastating loss which had him focusing on his career and didn’t believe that love or a relationship was possible for him until Emily comes into his life. Professional and personally he is enjoying his life between the baby they are expecting and his friends at Cole Security until the past threatens everything and everyone he cares about.

Emily has endured a past that no one should have to, and she has emerged stronger and more resilient. She didn’t expect to be able to trust a man, but Hawk broke through her walls and the future has never been brighter until the past resurfaces with a vengeance.

There was a lot of history and quite a few characters to understand however I enjoyed the suspense and romance of Hawke and Emily’s story.

This was my first time reading anything by this author so I felt a little lost at times because I didn’t know the back story of some of the other characters. So I definitely recommend reading the prior books.
I really enjoyed Hawke & Emily’s story. It was a clean romance book, but had lots of action. Both Hawke & Emily both have suffered f/events of their past. Emily’s life changed forever when she was only 16, she was abducted & r@p€d. Fleeing her home country, she was brought to the US. Hawke lost everything years ago when his wife & daughter were killed, but through therapy he met Emily. She was able to bring him back to life again & changed his perspective on things. He was able to find happiness again w/her.
I’m really interested in some of the other characters & definitely plan to go back & read the prior books in this series & California Dreaming.

Stacey hit this one out of the park!
I loved reading Hawke's story within this Salvation Society novel.
Hawkes story was a sad one, he learns to live without his wife and child never thinking he would get his piece of happiness again....
Until he starts to see Emily and try to piece his life emotionally back together. After retiring from the CIA Hawke joined Mark Dixon and Cole Security and thats when a massive curveball hits with a punch!
It was amazing to also see Sumner and Tatum in Hawke's journey (i mean how could she not when you understand their history)
The ending was special!! I won't go into details but i LOVED IT!!!

This book has everything you could ever want. Just make sure that you are aware of the love at the end. Hawke was someone I wasn't sure I could connect with but while reading his book I just fell in love with him. He has been through tremendous loss and is trying to live each day without losing himself as well. He has a heartache no man should endure, not to mention his life and his job that he tries to stay busy in. Emily her story destroyed my heart and I just wanted to reach into this book and hold her. She's been through so much and she's just trying to live. When Hawke and Emily meet there is for sure an attraction, but sometimes the past and the heartache try to get in the way. They will fight for themselves and love. Can they have it all with the pasts they have endured?

Requital is a book packed full of action and suspense, and one that is sure to keep you on the edge of your seat. Hawke experiences a devastating loss years ago when his wife and daughter were killed. While in therapy, he meets Emily. Emily was abducted and had some other bad things happen when she was only 16 years old. Even though he has dedicated his life to his job with the CIA, when he meets Emily, sparks fly. Together, they help one another break down the walls the other has built up. This book was full of action, intrigue, and so much more. Don't miss out on this one, it's a good story.

This is a great addition to this incredible series, and this is Hawke and Emily’s journey. Hawke tragically lost his wife and daughter years before, and he has dedicated his life to his job within the CIA, and when he retires, he is recruited by Cole Security. When Hawke and Emily meet the sparks fly, and she challenges him at every turn, and she manages to break through the walls around his heart. This is a well written action-packed story which has tragedy, emotions, challenges, second chances at love, revelations, twists, and intrigue, which leads to a riveting page turner.
I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend.

Requital by STACEY JOHNSTON.

I’m new to this author but definitely not to the Salvation Society. This is Hawke and Emily’s journey. My heart broke for them both for Hawke for all he had lost and for Luciana /Emily for what she had to endure. This was a very suspenseful romance. It was full of action which will have your full attention throughout the book. It has has heavy emotional situations and deals with very heavy trauma so be prepared. I recommend this book.

Requital: A Salvation Society Novel

Wow, what a different story. Hawke had already met his second love Em in this one. Usually it's the alpha meeting his trouble/destiny in the book. Love this take on it.
Seeing all the other characters too, makes the books that much more fun to read. I love Mark he is such a card!!!
Enjoy this book and series.

I recommend you read Enshroud first, but holy cow this series has been better with each book.
Hawke is the quiet one, you know he has secrets but no one will ever know. That is until Emily comes into his life and gives him a second chance.
It's an action packed book since page 1. So good!!

There's a lot going on with this read, suspense, nail biting, a protective group, and it all comes together well. I liked Hawke and Emily, they both have painful pasts that twist the heart. I love the twists and turns, but I would have liked a bit more focus on Hawke and Emily. I was intrigued by things she was working on and curious if we'll get more of that in the future. It's an intense ride from start to finish!

I received a copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

This is a new to me author and one I'd be interested in reading more from in the future.
For me personally I felt lost a lot of this book. It's supposed to be a standalone but there seemed to be so many backstories and moments that felt like we were supposed to know, and I definitely didn't. Although I dearly would of loved to as they sound right up my alley, the little that was shared.
This couple was different right from the get go. This book is more suspense than romance and I adored that factor.
Despite all my FOMO this was a good addition to this multi author world.
