Love. The world is not a better place if you don’t.
Reading good poetry is valuable in many aspects. It’s like taking a step back, putting things into perspective. The structure tells you that there is no rush. Each poem made me reflect on relatable situations, setting the premises straight away with a unique, indefinable essence, and elegantly mastering the art of pausing. Stanislavski has a great saying in his collection about the importance of pausing. He says, "The logical pause is for our brain, and the psychological pause is for our feelings."
Gaîté reminded me of some things I should always be mindful of—things I should never take for granted. Things I also should recognize as being out of my control. Little things that spark my heart and my wounds. Things I wish didn’t have to be so difficult. Little things I sometimes ignore, which take away my degree of presence and how I feel about myself. Being present and feeling it all patiently has had, and still has, the power to help me draw meaningful conclusions about what I value and what I want to distance myself from.
The content, conflict, and approach draw you in, inviting you to know more. It’s like a cozy conversation with a sweet, reflective person who knows the value of good words and provokes thoughts and emotions. It leads to thoughtful conclusions, subjectively speaking. Certainly, it makes you consider thoughts and emotions as possibilities to entertain, without internalizing everything at first glance. It’s great to remember tenderness and understanding in the midst of dark times.
Providing or finding shelter when needed, softening the taste of sadness, inhaling and exhaling as one, crawling through grief, shrieking through joy, and making yourself strong enough to bloom—can we be kind and still vigilant enough to nourish these warm feelings? "Spit me out as you must!" And I forgave you and will keep on forgiving, knowing that this is not your entirety. Once you’ve tasted how abundant love is, there’s no going back. Have a good read, insatiable person.
We willen beestachtig verlangen,
En nooit,
Nooit meer,
Binnen de lijntjes kleuren,
Die door een ander zijn bedacht.˜ -Gaite
