The most comforting of all my comfort reads, this is the book I have had the longest in my possession. I think I got it when I was five or six! Wadsworth with his simple yet elegant prose and Evans Price with her charming illustrations make this collection of tales one of my favourite books ever. Just feeling the textured cover and flipping through the pictures gives me a peace of mind not unlike the comfort of childhood. This reminds me of a quote from Name of the Wind, “When we are children we seldom think of the future. This innocence leaves us free to enjoy ourselves as few adults can. The day we fret about the future is the day we leave our childhood behind.” That feeling is what this book evokes, and I love it.
