On April 20, 2005, President Bush signed the Bankruptcy Abuse Prevention and Consumer Protection Act of 2005 which represents in many ways the most significant changes in the bankruptcy laws since the Bankruptcy Code became effective October 1, 1979. The 2005 Act consists of 16 different titles that can be summarized into five major
(1) Business changes, often originating because of perceived abuses
(2) Chapter 15 dealing with cross border issues
(3) Taxes
(4) Means testing
(5) Consumer abuses and protection. The 2006 Supplement will bring the reader up-to-date on these changes.
