Stanley Rosen was Borden Parker Bowne Professor of Philosophy and Professor Emeritus at Boston University. His research and teaching focused on the fundamental questions of philosophy and on the most important figures of its history, from Plato to Heidegger.

Stanley Rosen has succeeded in writing an enlightening, and thought provoking commentary on Plato's Sophist. This platonic dialogue is important for any number of reasons, not least because of its discussion of the problem of being and non-being, and true statements vs. false statements. Rosen makes it clear that Plato is not necessarily changing his views, as some have suggested, but that he is showing, in a dramatic manner, why Socrates never elucidated any positive doctrines.
