Cathy Lee Guisewite is the cartoonist who created the comic strip Cathy in 1976. Her main cartoon character (Cathy) is a career woman faced with the issues and challenges of work, relationships, her mother and food, or as Guisewite herself put it in one of her strips, "The four basic guilt groups."

Guisewite was born in Dayton, Ohio and grew up in Midland, Michigan. She attended the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor where she was a member of the Delta Delta Delta sorority. Guisewite received her bachelor's degree in English in 1972. She also holds seven honorary degrees.

In 1993, Guisewite received the Reuben Award for Outstanding Cartoonist of the Year from the National Cartoonists Society. In 1987, she received an Emmy for Outstanding Animated Program for the TV special Cathy, which aired on CBS. Guisewite was a frequent guest in the latter years of the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson.

Guisewite and her husband Chris Wilkinson reside in Los Angeles. She has a daughter and a stepson.

I love Cathy. She is paranoid and overthinks and does all sorts of silly things, but is still very lovable since so many women can identify with one or more of her foibles from shopping to relationships to gossipy workmates to buying her first home computer. In this volume Cathy has to deal with her on again/off again boyfriend Irving and his hangups and the sudden marriage of her friend Andrea who decided it was time to be married and started planning for it before having a groom. Sure to give the reader many chuckles.

I enjoyed this book very much !! Cathy Guisewite always captured the essence of single woman hood in the 1970's and 1980's . And , she managed to do it with a great deal of charm and humor !! This particular book was my introduction to the "Cathy " Comic Strip back in 1987 when it was first introduced !! I enjoyed the interplay between Cathy and her work , her desperate to be a Grandmother , Mother , her Father , her boyfriend Irving , and her best friends Charlene and Andrea . SPOILER WARNING !! In this book , Andrea decides to get married out of thin air . In rapid order , she 1) decides to get married , 2) proceeds to plan her wedding , ( Even though she has not even met her future husband !! ) and 3 ) meet , fall in love with , and marry her future husband !! This is a fun story , but , it is not the ONLY story in the book !! The remainder of the book deals with the weddings aftermath , as well as Cathy's life going forward . " It Must Be Something In The Ink " Cathy : Book 7 , is a well written , well paced , and very humorous book !! I enjoyed the book , and would recommend it to ALL Comic Strip enthusiasts !!
