William Lloyd Garrison: A Radical Voice Against Slavery
With the founding of his own newspaper, Garrison used the paper and his association with other abolitionists to advocate for the “immediate and complete” freeing of all slaves. Through his editorials, he became a symbol of the abolitionist movement by pointing out the hypocrisy of the country’s actions versus the ideals set out by the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution.

This was a nearly-perfect biography of an important person in our history. I would recommend it for sure for 7th graders interested in extending their knowledge about the fight for freedom for African Americans. Garrison is a difficult person to categorize but I think this work brings out the complexities nicely -- at least at the middle school level.
