Here in the step-by-step evolution of a smart frock Butterick has crystallized the formula for all successful dressmaking...a formula which resolves itself into these three factors...the choice of a superlatively smart style in a good pattern...smart fabric in a becoming tone and texture, correctly cut...and perfect workmanship.
Dressmaking books, as you well know, are not made for the ages but for the day of current fashion. When fashions change, methods of dressmaking change with them, and you must have the new methods. For the busy business woman...for the homemaker of many interests, "Making Smart clothes" is the logical guide to successful dressmaking because it is completely in step with the new fashions. Its authoritative pages will give you confidence in your own creative ability
This is a book published by the Butterick pattern company to support sales of dress patterns of the day, C.1930. Fun information on 1930's fashion styles, as everything in this book (fitting, finishing, machine sewing, special techniques, and "modernizing" your wardrobe) is based on the 1930's fashion silouette. Very simple illustrations and straightforward text. Not a lot of "frills" in this book.
