The Proceedings Of Pelagius
The Proceedings of Pelagius is a religious book written by Saint Augustine, a prominent theologian and philosopher of the early Christian Church. The book is a record of the debates and proceedings of the Council of Carthage in 418 AD, which was convened to address the teachings of Pelagius, a British monk who had been accused of heresy. The book provides a detailed account of the arguments put forward by both sides in the debate, as well as the various theological and philosophical issues that were at stake. Saint Augustine, who was a leading opponent of Pelagius, uses the book to defend his own views on original sin, grace, and predestination, and to refute the teachings of Pelagius. The Proceedings of Pelagius is an important historical document that sheds light on the development of Christian theology in the early centuries of the Church. It is also a fascinating read for anyone interested in the history of philosophy and religion. The book is written in a clear and accessible style, making it suitable for both scholars and general readers.THIS 42 PAGE ARTICLE WAS EXTRACTED FROM THE St. Augustin Anti-Pelagian Nicene and Post-Nicene Fathers of the Christian Church V5, by Saint Augustin . This book actually is what the title says it is: Augustine's account of how Pelagius hanlded his trial in Jerusalem and Augustine's own early interactions with him. Augustine is very careful to maintain that the church council did not really make a mistake in acquitting Pelagius, and the impression I get is that Pelagius basically redefined all the terms. Of course, this is Augustine's account, so I wouldn't go to the stake for Augustine's representation being accurate.
