From its modest beginnings in Forest Park with a few animals in a pen, the Saint Louis Zoo has become a world-class zoological park. Along the way, it has spawned many enchanting stories. In this fond collection of animal tales, Patricia Corrigan reveals all the charm of the Zoo's "wild things" and the people who care for them.

Bought at the gift shop of the St. Louis Zoo, this little book covers a variety of stories and anecdotes from the history of the St. Louis Zoo in Forest Park. Probably my favorite parts were the "animal spotlights" on some of the most famous residents of the zoo - like Miss Jim the Elephant, Mr. Moke the Chimpanzee, Siegfried the Walrus and (of course) Phil the Gorilla. The book is a little thin in parts, but it isn't really designed to be a true history of the zoo. There are a couple of other books that do a better job talking about the zoo's history and animals, but this was a nice, easy read and a short distraction while on a plane.
