About the author

Jonathan Empson was born in Nottinghamshire and grew up in Norfolk and Hertfordshire. Despite having a degree in computer science, he started his career as a copywriter, working in publishing.

He then became a motoring journalist, ultimately migrating to Sydney to edit an Australian car magazine. A freelance career followed, encompassing lad, food and women's magazines as well as Top Gear children's books, before he enrolled in the screenwriting programme at the Australian Film, Television and Radio School in 2009. He was subsequently awarded the FOXTEL Scholarship for Exceptional Talent and was nominated for the Australian Writers' Guild Monte Miller Award.

While developing the Australian-Singapore co-pro TV series 'Dangerously Smart', Jonathan completed his teen novel 'Then This Happened', the first book in 'The Hole Factory' trilogy, set 14 years after a catastrophic event has reshaped Earth and wiped out 99.9% of human life.
