Trade Liberalisation and Manufacturing Performance in Developing Countries: New Evidences from Nepal

Rate this book
Despite growing literature on trade liberalisation and growth, studies on least developed countries (LDCs) are limited, especially at the micro level. At the same time doubts that liberalisation may not solve the problems of LDCs remain strong. Given structural peculiarities, such as the early stage of industrialisation, poor infrastructure facilities and the lack of human capital in LDCs, the experience of high and middle income developing countries cannot be generalised to these countries. The experiences of a large number of developing countries would provide better insights into the debate over liberalisation and growth. The objective of this book is to examine the impact of liberalisation on manufacturing performance in developing countries, with special emphasis on productivity growth and trade-orientation in Nepal, which is classified as a LDC.
