This collection of adorable stories came from the author's memories of her childhood on a farm. She used to tell the stories to her own children, and the youngest always asked her when she was going to write them down so other children could know them too. She finally did, and this enchanting little book is the result.

The stars of the stories are Prince the horse and Rover the dog. They each have adventures that are told in short, easy to read sentences and illustrated with the cute, old-fashioned drawings I love. I could easily imagine the family gathered around while mama told stories, and I think this would be a wonderful book to read aloud, either to or by a child.

One story explained to young Bobby how Prince and Daisy (the other farm horse) help Mama make bread. He did not understand how this was possible, and kept asking his father how the horses would get into the kitchen where the bread is made. But after a day spent watching his daddy plow the field, he learns about the wheat that could not be planted if not for Prince and Daisy, and he finally understands how they help bake the bread. I thought it was a clever way to give an interesting lesson.

A very short collection of little kids' stories about farm life a century ago. Prince is a horse and Rover a dog. They have many endearing adventures. Lots of fun.

This text could have been written by James herriot. It was a cute children's book. The dog reminds me lot of snoopy
