The area of child development continues to grow, and new insights into the processes, as well as a better understanding of the social and cultural forces that shape development, are continually being introduced. As someone who provides health care for children and reassurance for their parents this book is one you will not want to be without. Organised according to the childs age, this informative, dynamic text takes you from the neonatal visit and newborn exam all the way through the late adolescent years. Additional chapters include special families (single-parent, blended families), dealing with stress (separation, loss), and resources for parents, including many found on the Internet. Make the most out of each childs visit with this new edition of Encounters with Children .
Includes developmental concept chapters that are arranged according to the child's age, with more attention given to younger children when much of their development occurs. Covers timely topics of social and family conditions such as single-parent and blended families, and reactions to stress. Includes many resources available to parents, including many found on the Internet. Incorporates children's art throughout, for use in clinical practice.
Extremely detailed and thorough text on the psychological development of children and their assessment at various stages of growth. A little too verbose at times, I wanted them to just get to the point, but it reads easily enough.
This is my favorite child development book. I refer to it often in my practice as a pediatric NP. I've bought 2 editions. The first actually has nicer graphics. The second has more and updated information.
A very informative, readable book on child development. The tables listing developmental milestones by age are very helpful, as are the 'red flag' boxes.
