Derek, a young New Yorker, is tired of being treated like a piece of meat by his boyfriend. He moves to Richmond, a smaller city in the South, hoping to find love. However, he's not prepared for the overwhelming response to his arrival. Sure, he was considered cute in New York, but handsome guys there are a dime a dozen. In Richmond, he's the hottest bottom around. Derek isn't the sharpest tool in the shed, and quickly earns a reputation of being "simple and easy." He tries to behave, but before long, the city's tops are tricking him into giving up his rump all the time. Derek discovers that he loves every minute of it. Will he decide he still wants romance or that he wants to be the official town sex toy?

This was a short story at only 45 pages but gavin atlas packs quite a bit into those pages. Derek is a young man who has just moved from New York to Richmond in the hopes of making a change in his life. When he lived in New York his ex-boyfriend always treated him "like a piece of meat" and Derek is making this move looking for love. Unfortunately for Derek, he's about to discover that the men of Richmond, at least the ones he's about to meet, will be very similar to his ex.

The first man he dates is Mike who is 21 years older than Derek. Mike gives the impression that he's looking for a boyfriend but before their first date is over Derek realizes he's once again a "piece of meat." After a while Mike no longer comes around and Derek meets Lou, a man even older than Mike. Once again, Derek thinks he's found a boyfriend but discovers instead he's found another user. Things go from bad to worse for poor Derek when Lou turns out to be not only a user but also starts to "share" Derek. As much as Derek tells himself he's looking for love and not to be used, he actually gets turned on by these situations and just can't stop falling for the tricks the men of Richmond use to get into his pants.

This is not a romantic love story in any way, even though that's what Derek is looking for. There's plenty of sex but no HEA, not even a HFN ending unless you count the fact that Mike once again gets involved with Derek and gets him to admit he likes the situations he been getting into. Derek's thought at the end of the book shows he's at last figured out what he wants, at least for now.

"I'd thought I wanted love, but I was only twenty-two. Love could wait a few years. I didn't want it now. I wanted to bottom."
