Dan Shaw

Sea of Bones

Rate this book
Dan Shaw hopes to be a lawyer some day--if he can only stay out of prison long enough to pass the bar. Neither is likely when he agrees to help a hotshot Florida attorney track down a slick con man whose swindled a consortium of well-to-do Paradise Key clients out of twenty-two million dollars. But the charismatic Victor Trebuchet and his sexy partner-in- crime are a lot more dangerous than anyone imagined. And the silken counter-sting set up in an Italian villa to snare the pair may end up trapping Shaw instead. With that much money on the line, anyone is liable to betray anyone. For now, Shaw's living the high life and he's way over his head. Soon he may find himself doing hard-time--or, worse, in a watery grave at the bottom of Bell Harbor.

This was a new author for me and I felt the book was just okay, a little boring. Two con men try to con a con man. This reminded me of an old David Niven movie with everybody being so precise and so evil. Faust's writing was okay, it was just a fairly predictable story.

A near brilliant crime thriller. The prose is pristine. The plot is anything but predictable. The characters slimy and believable in an offbeat way.

First, let me say that Martina is a self-righteous prig. Next, this is an updated version of The Sting with a wide variety of compelling characters. And finally, we are all savages under the surface.

I read lots of thrillers, and I'd add this to Top 10. Starts out with a kind of Carl Hiaasen story in Florida over a real-estate scam, and then moves to the Mediterranean and turns much darker. Characters fascinating, with skillfully-crafted villain. I truly think it's a solid 5.

A little better than the first, but not by much. Still a dark gritty crime novel full of unlikable characters. Just not my preferred reading. Often too many characters to keep track of. Still full of very long descriptions that just don't add anything to the story.

It was ok. I skimmed a lot of it. There are a bunch of characters, and I couldn't keep track of connections and such.
