Description: This set of encyclopedias is recommended from grades 3-6. They are focused around themes such as “Physical Science,” “The Arts,” and “Folklore and Religion.” The volumes include mini quizzes and fun facts to hold readers attention.
Content and Scope: These are very detailed and more for browsing. They are focused on broad topics but do include large illustrations. The “Search Light” feature in each article is designed to hold readers attention.
Accuracy, Authority, and Bias: Britannica Encyclopedias are often used in our library so it is very familiar to users and trusted.
Arrangement: The encyclopedia is arranged by broad themes and includes an index along with a glossary to assist students when browsing.
Relation to Similar Works: Grolier Student Encyclopedia are said to be similar.
Timeline and Permanence: These should be updated every three to five years.
Rationale for Selection: I chose these because library users are already familiar with the Encyclopedia of Britannica as a trusted source. These can be access online as well in our library.
