Dave Madden best known as Reuben Kincaid, put-upon manager of TV's Partridge Family tells all...or almost all in his memoir. Photos from Dave's personal album include never before published pictures of David Cassidy, Danny Bonaduce and many of the stars of 60's and 70's television shows. Dave, also an original cast member of Laugh-In discloses what went on behind the scenes during a career which included opening for Frank Sinatra, four television series, the theater and numerous guest appearances. The self-effacing comedian's famour wry wit shines through as he shares his experiences. And Jonathan Winters and Gary Owens among others, describe their experiences with the unpredictable comedian, actor, magician and musician!
Anybody out there ever start a job and have it define your life/career well Dave Madden did and it was in the form as being the manager for The Partridge Family! Although Dave did lots of other stints in his life being the manager Reuben Kincaid became his fate, while only lasting a short 4 years members of the show would become long lasting friends that would last till the day he passed; and that goes for people he`s worked with! What interested me most was The Partridge Family, was it me or was there two different drummer Chris, yes the first Chris played by Jeremy Gelbwaks fought with Danny to much so he got canned and replaced with Brian Forster. And why did the show come to an end, because David Cassidy decided to hit the road and focus on his music! So if there are any of you out there that need to know more about the show, let me know where to look!
I can say I've been a fan of Mr. Madden all my life. So, how it is that I took so long to pick up his book is a mystery. He has sadly passed, but I enjoyed reading about his journey from small town boy to pop culture icon.
I've given it four stars only because i would have enjoyed extra detail. When I say it is a light read, it truly is. But,, if you grew up in the 60s or 70s and remember Dave i think you will enjoy his book.
Nobody loves Dave Madden more than I do, I just didn't really enjoy the book. Worth reading for fans but it'll never be a must-have entertainment memoir. It's like he was trying to be serious and sucked all the joy out of his stories. I wish such a terrific entertainer had a more worthy book.
