This book was not very useful. I gave up on this book in favor of Rita’s complete “PMP Exam Prep System”. That bundle includes the PMP Exam Prep book (https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/6...) as well as the Hot Topics audio books which are a nice high-level review tool. But, most importantly, it also includes the PM FASTrack Exam Simulation Software. The Exam Simulation is a great exam prep tool that will let you know with confidence when you are ready for the exam (or if you are not ready). Rita's PMP Exam Prep enabled me to pass my PMP exam on the dirst attempt.
This is the PMBOK v4 book. I actually took a bootcamp class (4 days) on the PMBOK v5. This book is very detailed and each chapter comes with a 30 question sample exam. The exam gives you the answers and an explanation on why some are wrong and why the one is right. It also has 10 open ended questions at the end of each chapter that make you think a little. Answers are provided on these as well.
If you get a chance to take an actual bootcamp, it is invaluable. I plan on doing some more studying, filling out my application, and taking the PMP exam in the next couple of months.
I bought this PMP exam prep book as a part of the PMI study group. I was disappointed with how the book was written--there are errors in the test questions/answers and in many cases, the definitions of key terms actually used the terms within the definition. Three of my colleagues recommended I read Rita Mulcahy's PMP Exam Prep book and I am starting that now. I am two chapters in and already prefer the style of this book much more. I recommend switching to the Rita book if you are struggling to finish the Crosswinds version!
This was a good introduction to the discipline of project management, but It was a little to mechanical in its narrative to keep me interested in the topic. I would recommend it to those who are more visual learners, as the author provides some excellent graphics, charts, and diagrams.
