Another childhood favourite of mine. Lion was a show off and a bully who would march around the jungle terrifying all the animals with his roar. One day he loses his roar due to a cold and feels really rotten! The other animals agree to help him but only on one condition ; he doesn't scare anyone with his roar. When he feels better, Lion decides to go back into the jungle but it is silent. He soon discovers that the animals have been caught and captured by hunters. Together, the lion and the mouse come up with a plan to save them all and bring them back into the jungle. A heartwarming story about forgiveness and teamwork.
A lion teams up with a mouse to free the jungle animals who have been captured by hunters, intended to be carried off to a circus. The illustrations have a Rousseau-like quality, big bold colours and shapes, and will hold the interest the very young children at whom the book is aimed.
This is ok as a story so long as you don't expect that picture books should be based on the reality of life. OK, perhaps the animals actually represent people but it doesn't ring true for me. Lions in the wild do actually eat other animals but this book seems to avoid that reality.
