Grand Views beyond the Beauty , by acclaimed photographer Gary Ladd, is your personal guide to the Grand Canyon, the only book that answers the question, “What’s down there?”
• Covers twenty North and South Rim overlooks, including Grand Canyon Village, Yavapai Point, Mather Point, Desert View, and Bright Angel Point • Includes more than 100 photographs of views from overlooks and of innercanyon sites • Features facts about dozens of inner-canyon rock formations and other features • Discusses the geology, human history, prehistory, ecology, and weather patterns of one of the seven natural wonders of the world
If you have ever stood at a Grand Canyon overlook and wondered which buttes you are looking at, the name of the trail that snakes far below, or what the Colorado River looks like close-up, your curiosity will be satiated by the spectacular photographs and reader-friendly narrative of Grand Views beyond the Beauty.
The photographs are beautiful. However, I am disappointed that the book was not printed in the USA as the Grand Canyon is an important part of American history. Some of the text was difficult to read as the text colors blended in with the the background colors of the pages. I did find a typographical error (be cause for because) and the back of the book index was incomplete.
This had lovely photos, but even better information. It was a pleasant surprise. I learned a lot of things about the Grand Canyon I hadn't read elsewhere. I'm glad I purchased it and will definitely reread!
Basically a travel guide, the book is difficult to read all the way through. Much of the information is duplicated and it assumes that you are looking at the Grand Canyon while you are reading the book. Still, the photos are stunning and there is interesting information to glean about the Canyon.
