Reaching for Reality contains the compelling first-hand accounts of seven Texas men and women living with alien abduction. Each found their way to the same social worker who brought them together to face what they feared.
Clear is a psychiatrist that specializes in UFO abductees. The book are a collection of autobiographical accounts from her patients, with her commentary interspersed throughout.
The quality of the writing varies, as does what each person experienced and how they reacted. One woman was told by the aliens that they are her family and one day she will join them. She loves them and longs to leave earth and live happily with her space family. Another man has painful medical experiments performed in a cold, and sometimes menacing, way. He has been traumatized severely and hates his interactions. Some experiences were very vague or brief, others had a lifetime of regular interactions.
Most of the experiences are uncovered through hypnotic regression. The individual will have a weird dream or feel like something’s not right and then go through hypnosis to recall what happened. I don’t love hypnosis as it seems like the veracity of the memories could be suspect, but I also don’t know enough about it to right it off completely.
The therapy largely consisted of these people meeting once a week to discuss their experiences. Sharing painful memories with others that have gone through something similar would be very helpful for coping with persistent forced abductions.
