The long-awaited sequel to award-winning River (2006) continues werewolf River Wolfe's struggles through the human world as well as her journey towards her destiny. River, former alpha female of a wolf pack, has been human for nearly four years and is finally comfortable with her life. She has a new pack-consisting of humans, a couple of fellow werewolves, and a weredeer-and a mate she loves more than anything. She's dealt with a year of high school, made more than her fair share of enemies, and has at last accepted that she'll never again turn back into a wolf. Her world and newfound peace is shattered, however, when a woman shows up claiming River is her long-long niece. With no proof to the contrary-as no one believed her werewolf story anyway-River is forced to go with the stranger, far from her family. Once again ripped a life she knew and those she loves, now River must not only struggle with the separation from her pack, but with more and more questions that arise. How will she get home? Who is responsible for this case of mistaken identity? And, most importantly, what could they possibly gain from it all?

Friend Requests: I am really happy to accept new friends, however there is a challenge question. I realize it sounds bitchy, but I don't like author spam any more than any other reader. I ignore requests that don't respond to the challenge question (unless I *actually* know you in some capacity).

Please don't spam me with invitations to read your book. Thanks.

-----------

Award-winning author Skyla Dawn Cameron has been writing approximately forever. Her early storytelling days were spent acting out strange horror/fairy tales with the help of her many dolls, and little has changed except that she now keeps those stories on paper. She signed her first book contract at age twenty-one for River, a unique werewolf tale, which was released to critical and reader praise alike and won her the 2007 EPPIE Award for Best Fantasy. She now has multiple series on the go to keep her busy, which is great for her attention deficit disorder.

Skyla lives in Southern Ontario where she dabbles in art, is an avid gamer, and watches Buffy reruns. She’s naturally brunette, occasionally a redhead, and currently blonde. If she ever becomes a grown-up, she wants to run her own pub, as well as become world dictator. You can visit her on the web at www.skyladawncameron.com for free fiction, book news, a community forum, and tons of other totally awesome stuff.

Wolfe is the sequel to Skyla's debut novel, River. The main character, wolf-turned-human River, has finally (kind of) adjusted to her life as a human, and given up hopes of returning to her animal roots. Then, out of the blue, a woman turns up claiming to be River's long-lost aunt, and takes her away from her newly adopted family.

What follows is River's struggles to return back to her family and loved one (Darryl), as she simultaneously tries to unravel the mystery behind this woman, and the real reason for her being so-to-speak kidnapped.

I have to say I preferred the first to this sequel. But that doesn't mean I didn't enjoy Wolfe; I even shed a tear or two at a couple scenes.

I liked the description of the werewolf camp, as it was interesting to see other changelings in River's predicament, ones who perhaps resembled her more than Darryl and his father do. It was refreshing to see River behave a bit more logically, rather than just tearing everything to pieces - there is definite character growth between Wolfe and the first book.

I also liked the new love interest. Darryl needs some competition, especially if further books are written: he's often a bit of a wimp (although it's kind of understandable given what happens in the book).

Overall, it's a quick, easy and enjoyable read, definitely worth every cent of the mere $5 the ebook costs. The cover art is beautiful as well, and I liked the layout of the ebook, with little paw prints circling chapter headers.

Quite a few questions were left unanswered, and there's room for a sequel, if Skyla wants to write one. If she does, I'd make sure to check it out.

So... after giving in to the fact that I was still living in Cameron's world in my mind, I put aside everything else to consume WOLFE. And that's literally what I did. For two days, reading this book was pretty much all I did with my spare time.

The conflicts thrown River's way made me feel her heart-ache and desperation. The mythology is expanded (and fascinating). But for me, the commentary on humanity and the way we isolate and interact with each other was just so brilliantly woven into every page. And I found myself getting into a philosophical debate with a friend of mine about the idea of that... which is just a testament to the way Cameron's books really crawl into your brain as your reading.

Without being too spoilery, the end of this book amazed me. I was swirling through all of the emotions with the two main characters, desperate for them to find happiness and peace.

These are must read books. I am just so, so glad I picked them up.

Just as excellent as the first one. I wish she'd write more books with this character!
