This book provides wonderful insights for your study the Book of Mormon. Brother Gileadi's background as a rabbinical student in Israel before he joined the Church brings fascinating understanding to the language and teachings found the Book of Mormon. Each chapter coincides with a lesson from the Gospel Doctrine course of study.
I was excited for this book because I really like the author's works on Isaiah. The introduction of this book kinda set the tone for me. His experience in the 90's (and with good reason) set the tone for an uncreative or exploratory reading of the Book of Mormon. None of the insights were new or deep, though the writing style attempted to make it so. It's a good book if you've never read the Book of Mormon more than just casually. For a serious reader of the BofM, this book does not do much.
There were so any eye opening moments in this book. I love the explanations of covenants; blessings and cursings and divine protection. It is a great read for Latter-day Saints.
There are many different commentaries out there for the Book of Mormon. Some aren't so good, being made up of superficial observations and general authority quotes. The author, who is very well versed in the scriptures (especially Isaiah) did a very good job with this book. He provides an excellent commentary through a masterful use of the scriptures and finds insights both simple and profound. I just finished it but will immediately read through it again.
I actually enjoyed this. It has short little lessons that follow the Sunday school pattern - and yet has interesting or unique enough material that it keeps you checking the next lesson.
