Very rare is a book that is almost designed as a guide for PA tourism come into play with a uniqueness & ease of read that has this reader wanting to do far more than I have. With "Railroads of Pennsylvania: Fragments of the Past in the Keystone Landscape", Lorett Treese takes we the reader on a historical tour of the railroads of PA based upon region that has at times been predefined by the PA Department of Tourism. What makes this book from 2003 though still very relevant is it not only goes through the history of the railroad region by region but also explains the important people behind each piece of it as well as laying out tourist stops that people who have a love of railroads can visit. It is my hope as a reader that at some point this book will be updated to current in case of things that aren't there but either way this book will thrill anyone interested in this part of the history of the state of PA.
I bought this in Pennsylvania while on a road trip. It splits its content into geographic sections, so I could skip to a certain chapter when I arrived. The book is not exhaustive but gives a good overview of the railroad history of each region.
