Véronique Olmi is a French playwright and novelist. She won the Prix Alain-Fournier emerging artist award for her 2001 novella Bord de Mer. It has since been translated into several European languages. Olmi has published a dozen plays and half a dozen novels.

Eine Trennung, eine sich anbahnende Freundschaft zwischen zwei Frauen um die 40, eine schwierige Familiengeschichte, eine Prise Theatermilieu - Stoff, der zu Olmi passt. Und doch wurde ich nicht richtig warm mit diesem Roman, was vielleicht an der multiperspektivischen (0der gar auktorialen?) Erzählweise lag, die mir störend auffiel.

Une histoire d'amitié entre deux femmes, de trahison maritale, de non-dits familiaux... Moins bien réussi que Bord de mer ou Numéro six, mais agréable lecture.

Not as compelling as 'By the Sea', the narrative voice is not as strong. Feels like the tribulations of an ageing woman, wife and mother have been better described elsewhere. (Aimez-Vous Brahms, for instance)
