I enjoyed this book immensely!!

I finished " This Old House by the Lake" and immediately had a taste for goulash and chicken paprikash. I grew up in a European household filled with these grand aromas.

Hungary was spoken of often by my father. His childhood was filled with memories of a house with dirt floors, working the fields, and the simplicity of no modern conveniences. The author brings this to life, as she details the unforeseen complications of her journey to Hungry with her husband. They leave behind the comfort of modern technology and rural shopping for a deteriorating house in the country, in need of renovation. The renovation begins before they are able to take occupancy. Anything that could go wrong or be delayed did and was. The positive outlook of her husband and her stern determination to ensure tasks were completed make for a grand outcome.

The vivid explanation of the European culture and the Hungarian land brings her extraordinary experiences to life. Judith has definitely lived a full cultured life, embraced with supportive people who enriched her as a person. I am personally so grateful she shared these stories and this journey. This book and the contents hold a special place in my heart.

Her writings, knowledge and literary greatness provide a passionate heart-warming read. I look forward to reading her other books as an author and c
