ANOTHER SERIES OF ‘FAILED’ PREDICTIVE ‘PROPHECIES’
Grant Reid Jeffrey (1948-2012) was a Canadian teacher of Bible prophecy/eschatology and biblical archaeology, who was chairman of Frontier Research Publications, and hosted the TV program, ‘Bible Prophecy Revealed.’ [NOTE: page numbers below refer to the 510-page Harvest House paperback edition.]
He wrote in the Introduction to this 1996 book, “[This book] will explore the economic agenda of the elite globalist groups that are conspiring to force America and Canada to join the coming one-world government. We will examine the financial strategies that will allow us to survive the economic roller coaster awaiting us in the years ahead. [It] also reveals the fascinating catastrophic political, economic, and military crises that will uphold as we rush toward the new millennium.” (Pg. 9)
He states, “When the ‘time of the end’ arrives, Daniel’s prophecies will finally be unsealed. Then students of the Scriptures will be able to understand the mysterious predictions about the incredible events that will transpire in the last days. I believe that Daniel’s prophecies clearly indicate that we are approaching the ‘time of the end.’ Indeed the unsealing of these prophecies in our lifetime foreshadows the return of Jesus Christ as the Messiah King.” (Pg. 41)
He explains, “An important but often ignored factor in the chronology of prophecy is that of the proper length of the prophetic year. The Jewish year, during biblical times… had only 360 days. The solar year of 365.25 days … was unknown to the nations of the Old Testament… Therefore, if we wish to understand the precise times involved in the fulfillment of prophecy, we need to base our calculations on the … 360 days that the prophets themselves used… Daniel’s vision spoke of a total of 70 ‘sevens’ or 70 ‘weeks’ of years, equalling 490 years. This period of time, spanning from the command to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem [(March 14, 445 B.C.] until the Messiah was to be ‘cut off’ [April 6, A.D. 32]… [is] equalling a total of … 173,880 days. This prophecy was fulfilled to the exact day… we can be confident that the remaining ‘week’ of seven years, the Tribulation period… will be fulfilled just as precisely.” (Pg. 94-98)
He notes, “many people have asked why the Jewish calendar says we are 5,751 years from the creation of Adam while it appears from the Christian calendar that we are approaching the year 6000 from Adam… Part of the difference can be accounted for by an ancient copyist error from the list of ages of the patriarchs found in Greek Septuagint text of Genesis 5… When we combine the number of incorrect years introduced in the Septuagint chronology to the 166-year error from the sages’ misunderstanding of Daniel 9:24-27, we can account for the Jewish calenda’s mistaken calculation…” (Pg. 101-103)
He asserts, “elite power groups are planning for a New World Order that will unite all the nations on earth into a one-world government… Beginning at the turn of the [20th] century the secret powers that truly controlled world events from behind the scenes began to create organizations that would enable them to dominate future world events and ultimately produce the one-world government they desired… the only way to achieve their goal was to organize surreptitiously and impose their totalitarian world government on the world during a future moment of crisis… America, with its powerful economy and military forces, has been a key target for the people who are planning the future world government. Their plans cannot succeed unless America is weakened to the point where she can be forced to relinquish her freedom and sovereignty.” (Pg. 110-112)
He contends, “regardless of whether the Democrats of the Republicans control the White House or Congress, members of the Council on Foreign Relations will form the real government of the United States.” (Pg. 116)
He argues, “draconian dictatorial powers can be legally invoked by the president alone whenever he feels there is a time of increased international tension or financial crisis… Numerous confidential sources have confirmed that National Guard units and regular army units are training---in mock-ups of American cities… to attack, seize, and complete door-to-door searches for weapons.” (Pg. 136-137)
He asserts, “An incredible allegation was made recently by … an Israeli news magazine… they reported that government sources have privately revealed that Shimon Peres, Israel’s foreign minister, offered Pope John Paul and the Vatican the control of the Holy City… According to Israeli and Vatican sources this plan was also discussed with the PLO. Apparently Yasser Arafat has provisionally agreed to the plan… the idea is that the only way to assure peace in the Holy City is to allow a ‘neutral’ power, the Vatican, to guarantee the protection of the religious sites… by using troops from the … Swiss Guards that presently guard the Vatican in Rome… Incredibly, this plan calls for the Old City of Jerusalem to become a second ‘Vatican’…” (Pg. 194-196)
He continues, “the final pope of the Roman Catholic Church … will take the name Peter II and will come to power … in the final days of this century… Pope John Paul II believes that he will lead the world during the political, religious, and military crisis that will lead to the appearance of the Antichrist.” (Pg. 239)
He states, “The greatest threat is the new Health Security Card that President Clinton held … when he introduced his plan… This card would be used along with a new nation-wide computer system… your most private medical tests and health records would be stored in a massive federal government computer database… This Health Security Card is the opening wedge in the coming attack on our privacy and freedom…” (Pg. 298-299)
He acknowledges, “I am not a prophet, so I cannot predict when the governments of both the United States and Canada will ‘hit the wall’ financially. That moment will occur when the national debt and its compounded interest charges have risen so high that the total tax revenue of the country will not be enough to pay the interest on the national debt…” (Pg. 345)
He also notes, “After many years of professional financial planning with clients, I have seen overwhelming evidence that people who are generous in their gifts to the Lord and in their help to neighbors receive abundant blessings from God. But remember: When we give, our motive should be to give without any regard to receiving anything back.” (Pg. 385)
Jeffrey’s works of biblical apologetics and archaeology certainly have value; but his eschatological predictions of 1996 in this book just seem… misguided.
I got this book back in the late 90s, put it in my library and promptly forgot about it for a number of years. When I thought about reading it, got distracted and it remained where it was for nearly two decades. I finally made the time to read this book and it was like reading today's headlines. Most of the stuff here has come to pass or is currently developing right before our eyes in this new decade of the 21st century. It's amazing the similarities in the Clinton's Health Care plan and ObamaCare.... so perhaps there is a little more to things that seem new wave. Perhaps we are now at 11:59:45 on the countdown to Armageddon. Time is getting close.
Very difficult to get through as most of the book consists of mid 90s era conspiracy theories interlaced with Bible prophecy speculation that was itself a byproduct of the world of Hal Lindsey. I’ll give the author credit for recognizing the danger of financial derivatives and collateralizedmortgage securities way before it was cool. However everything else is a retread.
Good explanation of the Daniel prophecies. Interesting list of organizations working for globalization even 26 years ago, and the progress they have made. Will be looking for his later works now.
