The Wind Rose

Rate this book
In this third and final adventure, the prophecy of the Moon Singer is realized. But it all revolves around the answer to one question: Can music actually create and destroy life? If David, whose deafness still eludes treatment, cannot hear it, will he be able to tap into music's power to save the planet from catastrophe? Only if he is able to reunite the three sacred artifacts: the Singer crystal, the Rose Crystal pendant, and the Wind Rose compass. Their Triune energy is all that David needs to re-harmonize the destructive discordant music created by a vengeful music master. The mystical clipper ship Moon Singer is David's transport to the Source of his paranormal abilities, but only through his complete understanding of the Power of Three to Become One will he manifest his destiny and once again save a life that means more to him than his own. That understanding will come to him when he deciphers the cryptic musical codes that have been created for evil purposes. In unraveling these codes David will come to know his own soul's song, the one that allows his disability to become his greatest gift.

I hope you will enjoy my latest book: "The Immortal Rose Wyndham: The Beginning" (Moon Singer Series Book 4) a multi-generational saga about women blazing their way in a male-dominated world to define their own role in society.

For Christmas-themed books that inspire all year long, please look for my two children's books, (under the name Barbara Roman) available in print, e-book and audio book editions:
"Alicia and the Light Bulb People in Star Factory 13." Beautiful illustrations by Vladimir Cebu. A wonderful story of friendship and achieving your star potential through the magic of believing.
"Hubert in Heaven - a hi-tech angel gets his wings" a delightful children's book with a Christmas theme but with a timely and ageless message for all of us.
My latest children's book, "The Prince Who Was A Piccolo" is a metaphorical tale about an unhappy Prince who seeks his own musical identity to save the kingdom from disaster.

Since childhood, I've been torn between two worlds: writing and singing. It's difficult to serve "two masters," as they say, but I was compelled to do so. When I was not singing, I was writing; when I was not writing, I was singing.

I've learned, for me, that one creative expression nurtures the other. Much of my writing has a musical theme somewhere in the plot, or is the plot. Whether it's in my non-fiction writing about the power of music itself, in picture books and stories and, of course, in writing music and lyrics for songs.

It is natural, therefore, that my trilogy of adventures for young readers, "The Moon Singer" series has its roots in musical theories and metaphors, entwined with the magic and mystery of metaphysical concepts and matters of ethics, faith, compassion, love, and heroism.

Most of all, I hope my books inspire readers to know that, whatever their circumstances in life - just as my young "hero" David Nickerson learns - their greatest challenges are opportunities for growth and strength, and that their "disability" can be their greatest gift.

In my long life (won't tell you how long!), my path has gone every which way but straight to my goals, but I believe that my time for dream and soul fulfillment is NOW. Perhaps my books will inspire that belief in you as well.

The Moon Singer is a magnificent clipper ship and David, who happens to be deaf, has sailed to a mysterious island where he felt strong, loved and powerful enough to slay the Glass Snake and rescue the beautiful Saliana. His ears had heard the rushing sound of waterfalls and the musical chirping of birds. Did he hear or was he dreaming?
The memories of all of those incredible days, from (Book 1 and 2 of the Trilogy) live on in his mind, but now, for some reason, he’s in possession of three ancient relics and it’s not a coincidence. He was chosen, or perhaps he chose his calling with a sub-conscious desire to save his town of Port Avalon, from destruction. A compass, a rose crystal and the Singer all have to unite somehow and he has to figure out how.
I love the way the author weaves science, faith and music together to make it sound believable. Musical frequencies, magical numbers and heavenly visitations set up a special millennial moment when David’s soul codes are to be revealed. The only one confused is David and he has heard it before. Sort of. He’s even willing to have a serious surgical procedure called a cochlear implant, if it will help. “It will all be clear to me in time,” he says, questioning and searching for answers. Sadly, there are “planes of existence most people believe are merely fantasy.”
David, now in possession of the Wind Rose, travels at the helm of the Moon Singer to find his destiny. How can he help his sister Sally? How can he stop the mad scientist friend and foe, Professor Ramirez from going too far? How can he prove himself to his dad, and all those who doubt him because of his hearing? If you enjoy exciting fairy-tales, read the Windrose and be inspired.

The author writes a story of courage in the face of challenges. The first step in the journey is to realize that our disabilities can also be what makes us stronger. For David, a hearing disability, is just the beginning of the story. David has three special items that may help him on his journey. The magic of powerful artifacts is what makes this story special and a book for all to enjoy. A rose crystal, a compass, called the wind rose and a ship named the moon singer are all on David's side as he proves love and hope can prevail. This is the third book in a well written, magical series. I encourage readers of all ages to grab all three and join in a grand adventure.

Triumph over adversity

In the third part of Barbara Roman's Moon Singer trilogy we once again meet David Nickerson, who having come through various experiences based on the premise that music is the holds the key to many of the secrets of the world we live in. Once again he finds himself on board the mystical clipper ship, Moon Singer as it carries him on his latest and final voyage, armed with the three artefacts that will save the world from inevitable destruction. Problem is, David is deaf and only when he is carried to the strange and mysterious land he previously visited in parts one and two of the trilogy, is he able to hear in a very special way.
I don't want to spoil the story, but of course there is a villain, one who seeks to destroy the world, using discordant music and melodies. It's a beautifully constructed tale which is suitable for all ages, with elements of fantasy, adventure and poignancy, (read it to see what I mean). There's some nail-biting, edge of your seat stuff, too, which all combine to produce a very exciting and readable page turning adventure story. Well worth a five star rating.

My book has a 4.7 star rating on Amazon. As the author of "The Wind Rose" (and The Moon Singer trilogy), I'd like to offer some personal insights:

“When he couldn’t hear the discordant sounds of the world he turned within and listened to the music of his soul.”
In this third and final adventure, the prophecy of the Moon Singer is realized. But it all revolves around the answer to one question: Can music actually create and destroy life? If David, whose deafness still eludes treatment, cannot hear it, will he be able to tap into music's power to save the planet from catastrophe?
The universe is alive with musical vibrations. This belief has its beginnings with the Greek philosopher and mathematician, Pythagoras, whose theorems on numbers bridged the divide between the spiritual and the scientific. The planets in the solar system, our bodies, and every life form vibrate to a certain frequency relatable to a musical tone. Some are harmonious and life affirming, others are discordant and destructive to our mental and physical well being.
Music theories form the plot for The Wind Rose, wherein a mad music professor plots revenge on society for the proliferation of harsh pop music at the expense of the Music of the Masters. (I know some “real world” music lovers who feel this way!). His weapon: discordant music compositions that create havoc on the world’s vibrations, causing such things as earthquakes and hurricanes.
In order for David to understand and complete his karmic mission, to manifest his destiny and once again save a life that means more to him than his own, he must decipher the cryptic musical codes that have been created for evil purposes. In unraveling these codes David will come to know his own soul's song, the one that allows his disability to become his greatest gift.
But throughout the Moon Singer Trilogy, amidst the mystery and fantasy, is a simple story of family love: a boy’s love for his dead mother whom he misses desperately; his love for and need to be protective of his younger sister; and the estranged love between father and son that David longs to repair.
The Wind Rose takes the fairy tale exploits of The Crystal Clipper and the Atlantis-like morality tale of The War Chamber to one of human dichotomy: our propensity to repeat the same mistakes over and over again and our deep desire to listen to the better angels of our nature. These might seem like lofty subjects for children, but I believe they have been presented in unpretentious terms that are also entertaining and enlightening.
Is there more? Yes a Prequel is in the works...

I personally wish I would have read the first two books in this series as this is really more of a final chapter. With that said it is a pretty fun book and I think if I would have read the first two I would have been able to get into it easier and understand the characters better than i do! Don't let that stop you from checking this book out though, it may be completely up your alley!!!
