The author of this book is a well known expert in organizational culture studies. Ms. Gittell also studied Southwest Airlines culture in her famous book: The Southwest Airlines Way. In this book she turns her attention to the healthcare industry and in doing so discovers a new factor in human performance. The factor she calls Relational Coordination.

Relational Coordination is the "coordination of work through relationships of shared goals, shared knowledge and mutual respect. My goal in reading this work is the understand the theory and learn how to apply it in industry.
