I'm not sure why this fascinating read isn't getting better reviews here. It's based on events that really happened, and it's a real page turner. It's about a British woman living in Vienna during WW2. There she marries a German fighter pilot who had helped to raise Jenny's son from a previous marriage. When Jenny's son's plane is shot down, she does everything in her power to find out what happened to him, and eventually gets herself inside the POW camp where her son is being held prisoner. I had thought that the recent Hamnet and Judith novel was my favourite read, but this moving read has challenged that perception. This novel is as good as, if not even better than, Maggie O'Farrell's book.
