This was actually two novellas in the spirit of Zane Grey.

The first story was about a woman who owned land that was desired by a local rancher. Her husband had left for work two years prior and not returned. She is helped by a US Marshall - who falls in love with her and quits his job to stay with her.

The secord is about the local sheriff. He is trying to keep order in his town when confronted by the local attorney about a "moral" situation. It is brought to his attention that a rancher has taken in a young half breed while his wife is out of town. The sheriff has to handle the situation even though he believes it is none of his business.
