Shakespearean style to the prose. I liked the first two parts but the over describing things sort of dulled the entire experience. Like, boi, we don't need to know every single detail of the temples, capisce?
First book of the year! I really enjoyed this read, beyond the obvious barriers of Middle English, and found it really immersive. The story of the two conflicting cousins/brothers and their chivalrous nature (albeit less so in the case of Arcite) was really interesting and it truly presents a narrative so enrapturing, yet in a form a lot shorter than that of a standard modern novel. -1 star for some of the dragging descriptions where I was led away from the plot (and had to resort to litcharts occasionally..oops) demonstrated in the extensive stadium description and the description of Arcite's funeral (I wasn't a fan of him anyway). Overall a really fun read to start the year and I mayyy become a chaucer fan..the rhymes were very fun!
I loved The Merchant's tale in all its comic value, however, I hate to say it but I really did not enjoy this one. I found the story confusing to follow and pointless in narrative. However, I have only read it once and I will need to study it a bit more to understand the whole plot.
