Originally published in 1989 by Macdonald Books, this book shows the variety and style of buildings and monuments from all over the world, both religious and secular, public and private. The events that shaped the way people thought, and influenced what they built are also discussed, as well as the social factors that led to stunning buildings.
The book is organised by theme such as Ancient World, or Industrial Society which are further broken down. The Ancient World chapter has subtopics of Greek Orders, Greek Temples, Greek Secular, etc. The Industrial Society section has Cast-Iron Structures, Arts & Crafts, The Chicago School and Art Nouveau to name a few. Photos are excellent and the text is well-written. Informative while being a great introduction--obviously, there is nothing too in-depth here but a great way to learn about the different types of architecture.
