An easy and interesting read about the relationship throughout their lives of David Unwin (who wrote children’s books under the pen name David Severn) and his father, publisher Sir Stanley Unwin. No doubt part of Sir Stanley’s success as a publisher was due to his single-mindedness and control over every aspect for his business; such attitudes in the family home ended up creating a stifling relationship for his son. David is very fair-minded in his portrayal though. I confess that I have more of an interest than most people because of my fairly distant family connection.
