[Tommy Verhaegen]

The story is well-known, it is part of our cultural heritage and we all grew up with it. Though the original version from the brothers Grimm is quite different from the Disney version, which is much, much sweeter, it is the latter that is stuck in our memory.
In this version the story is very much simplified up to it becoming impossible to follow what is actually being told without background knowledge. But that is underestimating the imagination of little children that begin to read - there a no limits there and they will automatically fill in the gaps - and more.
The story can be read bu the children themselves or read by (grand)parents to them which allows to fantasise about it together.
