For an easy reader book, this is exemplary. The artwork is vivid and softly realistic. You can practically touch Skipper the dog. The little girl is Black, and is shown in a positive light with Skipper, her best friend -- a dog that, curiously enough, is both black and white.

Nice metaphor in a book to help people read English.
