Kenda Tyson has lived a pretty wonderful life. Her parents are lawyers who own their own firm, and they provide their 17-year-old daughter with only the finest. Kenda has come to expect that the men in her life will continue to offer her that same level of luxury, and when she meets the good-looking, smooth-talking Jerome Smith, she's sure she's hit the jackpot. Her perspective quickly changes, however, when she finds herself caught up in a whirlwind of love, lies, and abuse. The first time she has to examine a bruise on her face, Kenda allows herself to believe that it was a mistake Jerome will never make again. Her friends try to convince Kenda that being with Jerome is not what's best for her, but when she refuses to listen to them, they walk away, hoping that God will hear their prayers and protect Kenda's life. When Kenda decides that her relationship with Jerome is more important than her friendships and her family, will she realize how much she is giving up before it's too late?
This book is totally a quick, but great read. I am not the reading kind of person that reads book, after book, no matter how good or bad the book is. I the reader that needs a book that is entertaining, and keeps me hooked in all the way to the end. While reading this book I found myself reading to midnight because I just couldn't put down the book. Of course I wasn't reading book to midnight on mon-thurs, but I did read the book to midnight on Friday. It was just that good. I finish the book in less than two days.
Anyway the main character in this book is Kenda. She is and 18 year old senior that is a gold digger. She just dates guys for their money and what she can get with their money. And as soon as she gets bored with a guy she kicks them to the curb. But she got hooked on this one guy named Raymond. They dated for six months and Raymond caught on with her gold digging games and he broke up with her for that. But months after their break up she still had strong feelings for him and instead of displayingthose feelings to Raymond she displayed those feelings to another guy named Jerome.
Jerome is a twenty-one year old man who is very mysterious at first, but his history and his character starts to show later in the book. Later in the book I found out that Jerome is a drug dealer, and acording to him he had a hard life as a child and adolesent (but I don't believe that). Jerome is a very agressive and abusive person and he made Kenda sell drugs by force. He beat her until she said she will do it. But this is not the forst time he hit her. He hit and hurt her multiple times before. She stayed in that relationship for as long as she did because she thought Jerome loved her and that she loved him too. News Flash, but when you love someone the love shouldn't hurt, It should be comforting, caring and always there.
That is when Kenda realized Raymond was the one she loved. All throughout her abusive relationship with Jerome, Raymond cared for her, comfort her, and gave her affection that she never experienced before. He even told her friend Lyn that he loved Kenda. That is when Kenda woke up and realized the Raymond was the one for her and the feelings that she had for Jerome were really the feelings she had for Raymond.
So you think thats it, "and they all lived happily ever after". No it isn't, but you have to read the book to find out the true ending. And let me just tell you this, the story gets much better than this.
This was my first book by this author so I didn’t know what to expect. It was YA which I’m not a fan, but I wanted to give the author a fair shake I was so mad at the main character and the choices she made, but happy she was surrounded by good people that helped guide her. Onjhuhhh
This book was ok, it was a far cry from what I'm used to reading but it was a good book nonetheless, I usually read street lit but decided to try a book from Urban Christian.
Read about 160 pages, before it started to loose me. I ended up skimming the rest of the book. Would have given it 3-4 stars if the pace was still fast for the duration of the book.
