When I was in graduate school, this was a fine resource to me. Lerner's book is about the value for understanding biology--oincluding social implications.

The book covers principles of living beings, the nature of Darwinism, human biological and cultural evolution, genetics, nature versus nurture, mutation, human diversity, and implications of biology for human life.

The book is over 40 years old, but it represented a terrific work "in the day."
