Sehr humorvolle Schilderung ihres Lebens. Mehr als einmal hab ich herzlich gelacht

In this book as well as its prequel, 'Einmal Hans mit scharfer Soße,' Hatice Akyün writes about her experiences in the "parallel worlds" in a series of anecdotes about Germans who assume she's too Turkish and Turkish immigrants who don't understand that she's also a German. I would argue, however, that her main conflict is very common and entirely independent from (or maybe only exacerbated by) the question of national identity: she's a confident, successful woman, an individual capable of making decisions, but she wants to be understood and accepted by those around her.

Ms Akyün deals with some of the major, controversial and intricate issues of the modern era, so it seems a bit brazen of her to write in a tone which indicates that appraisal of the situation at hand is "correct". Maybe the stories wouldn't be as personal or funny, but perhaps they could be more universal, if she even once considered that her mother or her German friend might be right or more than stereotypes.

Schade - nur anderthalb Tage Lesevergnügen, dann war Hatice Akyüns 2. Werk schon ausgelesen. Ich liebe es, wie sie schreibt, in die Schilderungen ihrer türkischen Herkunftskultur einzutauchen und sie dabei zu beobachten, wie sie selbst mit den Vorurteilen gegen "die Türken" kämpft. Bleibt nur die Frage: Wie viel davon entspricht tatsächlich der Realität?
