This book helps young people get comfortable with one another, facilitate sharing and discussion, and build a sense of community -- along with a sense of fun! For formal and informal settings, groups who know each other or strangers, these theme-organized icebreakers work for sharing information, learning to work together, and building problem-solving techniques. For each tested strategy, there's a statement of purpose, time required, list of supplies, clear directions, and suggestions for adapting to different size groups, settings. Blackline masters for reproducible hand-outs are also provided.
Great book that can be used as motivation exercises (or even lesson closures) during classes.
Features 3 categories: Getting Acquainted - activities that are very non-threatening ways to get group participants to know each other. Thought Provokers - to get participants to know one another on a deeper level. Energizers - lively experiences that fill the group members with energy and spur them to work together in various situations.
One thing that bothered me sometimes was the need to go out and buy (pricey) materials in order to carry out the activities mentioned in this book. But overall, a good reference to have when one is out of ideas to enliven a class.
