On January 13, 1954, 28-year-old Norman Moon stuck a Colt .45 automatic in his waistband, under his coat, and walked into the courtroom of President Judge Allison Wade. Moon's divorce case had dragged on long enough and now he was ready to settle it. Six shots were fired. When Moon walked out a minute later Judge Wade lay dead on the courtroom floor.
MURDER IN THE COURTROOM is the true story of how the sexual compulsions of a pampered, small-town beauty led to judicial misconduct and homicidal rage in the small northwestern Pennsylvania town of Warren. This was the first and only time in U.S. history that a judge was killed at the bench by the defendant during his trial. The story simmered for 50 years until two journalists decided it was time to stop the rumors and inuendo surrounding this case and report what really happened and what went on behind closed doors. Includes crime scene photos. Purchase or read the first three pages at the Windy Knoll Books website/URL: http://windyknollbooks.com/index.html.
I enjoyed reading this book, even though it was a tragedy and I'm not a big fan of tragedies as a rule. This true story took place in Warren, PA and I'm from Bradford, PA, about 30 miles away. I had never heard of this murder because I was a young child when it happened. Both authors did an excellent job of presenting a great deal of material in an interesting fashion. I think it would make a great mini series or TV movie so I wish them luck in making that happen. Mr. Moon was the victim as much as Judge Wade was. They both paid a high price for their mistakes. I felt especially sad for Norman's family. They had nothing to do with the mistakes that were made but they suffered terribly. A small town never forgets.
This was a very interesting account, following actually courtroom transcripts, of a case that Warren County is famous for: the court room shooting and murder of Judge Wade by Norman Moon over 60 years ago.
