About the author

In the tumult of the 1960s, in the midst of the American war in Indochina, and the American containment of the People’s Republic of China, a group of Asian studies graduate students and faculty came together to protest US foreign policy in the region and to reform the academic field of Asian Studies, which viewed the region through the lens of fighting communism. They called themselves the Committee of Concerned Asian Scholars (CCAS) and they began publishing the Bulletin of Concerned Asian Scholars (BCAS). In 1992 they changed the name of their flagship journal from the Bulletin of Concerned Asian Scholars (BCAS) to Critical Asian Studies.
