故事很有趣也富含寓意,但是其实情节更多地偏向于基督教的发展挣扎……并且十分恐同地将哈德良和安提努斯的关系定义为了朋友……虽然从情节上来说这种定义并无大碍,因为作者只是对那个时代进行寓言式的,有趣和浪漫的探索。但是作为冲着皇帝和他的最爱之间那种特别的浪漫而来的人可能就要大失所望了。看来看去作者似乎都只愿意把他们定义为盖被聊天共处一室却无比纯洁的男男友谊。

另外作者对于哈德良品行的定义——多疑,善妒,善变,不断伤害自己最爱的人,或是玩弄,折磨他的感情,将他束缚于自己的宠爱之中;而安提努斯——纯真忠诚,被伤透了,折磨坏了,却依然愿意为皇帝付出生命,却也足够令人唏嘘。他所描述的正是至高无上的爱,或是自私而蛮横的爱——他却被时代的目光所蒙蔽,觉得只有异性间所持有的欲望才能算做是美好,才能算作是爱情。

前面的部分看得很欢乐,但是很可惜,中间部分对于Phelgon家庭的长篇大论让人逐渐丧失了兴趣,而结尾对于安提努斯之死的揣摩虽然很令人动容,但却总觉得稍显扭曲,还带入了莫名其妙的少年对少女的青春萌动情节,实在不是我的菜。
