What makes prophetic monotheisms different from natural religions ? Why is it that despite being so dogmatic they still have managed to gain so much of land area ? What was the mindset of the progenitors of abrahamic religions ? Were they mentally sane ?
This book is a brilliant assessment of prophetic religions that goes into detail and dissects prophetic monotheisms to bring the reader to a fairly accurate understanding of the psychosis of not only the prophets, but also of the true believer. Thoroughly elaborate, it explains the biblical stories through a psychological lens backed by historical events surrounding it.
The essence of prophetic monotheisms is beautifully summed in these few lines from the book --- "The problem with christianity and islam is superficially their intolerance and fanaticism. But this intolerance is a consequence of these religions untruthfulness: if your belief system is based on delusions, you have to pre-empt rational inquiry into it and shield it from contact with more sustainable thought systems. The fundamental problem with the monotheist religions is not that they are intolerant, but that they are untrue."
Make sure this short but incisive book is on your reading list for the weekend.
