Jan Gonda was a celebrated scholar of Sanskrit and his German-language Kurze Elementar-Grammatik der Sanskrit-Sprache saw some popularity in the mid twentieth century. Gordon B. Ford translated its fourth edition into English under the title A Concise Elementary Grammar of the Sanskrit Language.

While there is nothing wrong in this book, its utility is diminished by the fact that it is little more than a collection of Sanskrit paradigms (with a tiny little bit about composition and syntax at the end). This isn’t a reasonable textbook to learn Sanskrit from in this day and age, and whatever textbook you are using, it will contain more or less the same level of grammatical detail as this slim book. Therefore, students will probably want to skip this. (Mayrhofer’s Sanskrit-Grammatik is similarly skimpy.)
