I am always searching for a great mystery or romance with the setting in Canada. I crossed the borders twice and enjoyed my small glimpse of this nation. Like the US, it is vast area and people and cultures are different. I know that Judith Duncan lived in Alberta for part of her life and when I read All That Matters I thought of this province in Western Canada often.

Twenty-seven-year-old Susan Lynton worked for Jason Chisholm’s Uncle Clayton in Ottawa. She was his administrative assistant. He convinced her to take a much-needed break and accept the role of cook at the Chisholm ranch in Alberta. Jason’s mother had performed the job but she had some health issues.
After arriving at the homestead, Jason greeted her with reservations. He was a 44-year-old divorced father of four children and he had all he could do to run his spread without temptations.
This romance was published in 1987 and it leaned heavily on the follies of stories written in that decade. I felt the age spread frequently. To be sure, Jason’s character was a a man in his mid-40s. When the two admitted there were sparks, Jason allowed his eldest daughter to influence his affections.
The plus side was my ‘visit’ to Alberta and Ms. Duncan’s style of writing. Unfortunately, the lack of communication hurt my rating.

There is no doubt Judith Duncan is a talented author because only she could make me enjoy a book like this which has this seemingly perfect heroine, good at her job, loves cooking, cleaning, gardening, kids and is willing to open herself for a man who has 4 kids. The hero is 44, she is 27 which is obstacle between them plus he was married to a younger woman before who was faithless. The romance ebbs and flows and they get together much later but their happiness is short-lived as they are caught in a compromising position by his teenage daughter. I honestly enjoyed this a lot as the book had a lot of emotion in it. You really felt these two falling for each other, trying to resist because of the obstacles in the way. I only wish more of this author's backlist was available in digital for me to read.

I just dug this out of a box of books that I had in storage. I thought I had read all of Judith Duncan's books and didn't remember it at all.
It was along the lines of her books. Emotional, Angsty and my kind of book!

Started off as one of those insta-love tropes that I don't care for, usually doesn't capture my interest, but I'm glad I continued reading because, overall, there is an abundance of all kinds of love intricately woven throughout the story.

Amazing... I know this book backwards and forwards but can pick this up at anytime and still enjoy it. I couldn't recommend it highly enough.
