This work addresses sensitive issues affecting Caribbean children growing up in the UK. It draws on the authors' experience of child psychiatry, adoption and fostering, education, welfare systems and the law, and is intended for those involved with the social welfare and education of Caribbean children. Adoption and fostering in the UK are placed in context with children's civil and legal rights. The text is illustrated by stories, poems and interviews. Family life, health and education are delineated, with reference to colonization, slavery, social and economic hardship. Good practice in education, social and health services is discussed, including consideration of situations where ethnic minority children require home finding or other services from the host country.
