Edgar was an eye-witness to the events and knew most of the people he writes about. In fact the book was written in 1896 FOR many of the people he writes about, or their descendants. As such, Edgar assumes his reader is familiar with some place-names and people that have lost currency in the past century. But still, this is probably the best book to go to for the early local history of Montgomery and Greene counties in Ohio.
