When she was young and under her evil grandmother’s thumb, she jilted him. So he went and found the first girl who looked a bit like her and got married. When that didn’t work out, he came back to her small island and served her a very cold dish of revenge. He put on a long, slow effective seduction campaign knowing that she was engaged to another man, and when she finally succumbed, even whispering I Love Yous as he had her in bed, he dumped her brutally, leaving the island without saying goodbye. The idiot girl left her home and decided to fly to the city he lived in on the mainland with an amazing plan to work her useless, skill-less fingers to the bone in some menial job until she could find him again. Well, knowing the idiotic wet dishrag she was, he was waiting with open arms at the airport with all sorts of gaslighting excuses that he treated her like a one hour prostitute not from revenge but because he wanted her to go after him, rather than waiting to be “rescued” from a lukewarm engagement she had been manipulated into. Honestly these two deserved each other :(

Not too good a story. A dead old lady who thought she was God's gift to the world still causing trouble from beyond, a h who comes across as snarky, a H who goes all "revenge served cold" and acts crummy instead of realizing (more fool him) that success is the best revenge, and neither of them had a problem using other people to (supposedly) forget the other. (In his case, a hasty marriage, in hers, a half-hearted engagement). And all because when the h was not yet 18, she was torn between her grandmother (a manipulative bitch but also a clever one) and the H who, in his late 20's, should have taken her young age into account. Had she been 22 at the time (like she is in the present story), I'd have been on his side, but her being still a teenager, he should have had more understanding.
And the h's brother was a jerk, her sister-in-law was annoying, her fiancé was stodgy and pompous and the whole thing with the restaurant got ridiculous real fast!
There's just too much nonsense for me to ever believe these two get a HEA.
Jenna Anderson had finally gotten her life in order in the four years since Drew Merrick had left the Australian island they'd been raised on. He'd flown away, and brokenheartedly she had stood back and watched him leave without her.
Now, in the one week he'd been back, Drew had bought out Jenna's partner, insulted her fiance, invaded her home and thrown her into frightening emotional turmoil. And Jenna knew there was worse yet to come.
For even while Drew was smashing her carefully organized life to bits, Jenna realized that the passion of their still-smoldering love could not be denied.
